About Matthew

Managing Partner of Walsh Halligan Douglas Lawyers since 2008, Matthew has represented and advised some of Queensland’s high profile businesses and individual clients in sophisticated and complex litigation. Matthew also provides expert advice on a wide range of commercial insurance issues from intricate indemnity questions, to complex litigation and claims management strategies. The firm’s insurance clients include a large mining company, two major insurers and a national insurance group.

Matthew’s Insolvency and Recovery team have earned a reputation for outstanding results and quick turnarounds, having been instructed by many large companies to recover their outstanding debts. For one client, a proprietor of a major Queensland shopping centre, Matthew’s team saw the recovery of all outstanding lease obligations (and interest and costs) in 60% of matters in a 12 month period. In addition, these recoveries were made within two months of filing a claim and approximately 85% of all remaining matters were resolved within three months.

Renowned for his tenacious yet discrete approach, Matthew also oversees a burgeoning Media, Entertainment and Sports practice. Matthew and the team have provided advice and representation to high-profile clients regarding contract negotiations, sponsorship agreements and non-compete clauses. He is called upon to give specific assistance to in-house legal teams in strategic and often difficult situations, is engaged by southern media law firms to protect their clients’ Queensland interests, and more recently has been engaged to advise the firm’s clients on the growing area of social media responsibility.

Having been appointed to the government’s LocalBuy panel, Matthew uses his in-depth knowledge of litigation to provide expert advice to government clients.
